capturing moods, moments and memories on my travels
Rogue River, Oregon
Rogue River wreck: one of my favorite discoveries on a road trip along the coast of Oregon.
Laguna San Rafael, Chile
The older the ice the bluer it looks. As my little inflatable drifted quietly among the icebergs that had calved from the glacier, I knew I was looking at something really ancient. Who knows what is locked inside?
Big Island, Hawaii
Holei Sea Arch looks like an enormous elephant trunk slurping at the angry Pacific Ocean below. It stands at the very end of the Chain of Craters Road in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - the only place on the planet where I have stood on land younger than me.
Iceland is justly famous for its waterfalls and its rainbows, and the majestic Gulfoss is probably the most famous of all. No picture can do justice to the sound of all that water rushing past you at over 100 cubic meters per second before plunging into a crevice 100 feet below.
Grey Lake, Chile
Massive icebergs calve from the Grey Glacier in the distance - they then float across the lake and this is what remains when they reach the opposite shore
The famous Skogafoss waterfall. Aside from admiring its grandeur, imagine that originally this was a sea cliff with water cascading into the ocean - but centuries of volcanic eruptions have created a lava plain now stretching 5 kilometers to the sea.
North Side, Grand Cayman
Cayman Crystal Caves, filled with stalagmites and stalactites. Formerly used as hideouts and treasure lairs by pirates, their secrets are now guarded by bats who still live in the caves.
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
One of the many exhibits in the floating museum of natural wonders that constitutes Ha Long Bay in Vietnam
The wild, wet and brutally rugged coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula on the southwestern tip of Iceland. Not only is this the closest point of Europe to the USA, it is actually on the North American continental plate - the geological divide is slowly splitting Iceland from southwest to northeast, adding to its elemental character.
Provo River, Utah
Peace and serenity at the Provo River waterfalls in the Uinta Mountains
